Women’s Health, Healthcare Innovation & Leadership

Lana is a pharmacist, researcher, innovator, and thought leader in women’s health, biomedical technology, and healthcare innovation. Her work sits at the intersection of science, commercialisation, and precision medicine, advancing solutions that improve outcomes for women across pregnancy, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and pathology.

As global investment in women’s health and femtech accelerates, Lana has been at the forefront of translating scientific discovery into real-world healthcare innovation. Her research led to the discovery of novel blood-based biomarkers for preeclampsia, a life-threatening pregnancy complication, which were translated into in vitro diagnostic (IVD) technologies for both laboratory and point-of-care testing using lateral flow assays.

Recognised internationally for her expertise in women’s health and sex differences in medicine, Lana was invited to lead an international seminar publication for Sex Differences in Health Awareness Day, contributing to greater awareness of how biological sex influences disease, diagnosis, and treatment outcomes.

Addressing the critical need for improved pregnancy research models, Lana and her team also pioneered the development of 3D bioprinted first-trimester placental organoids, or “mini-placentas”, through collaboration with a Sydney-based biotech start-up. This innovative platform enables high-throughput development of biomarkers and therapies for placental dysfunction and pregnancy-related disease.

Her broader work includes contributing to patient-derived “mini-heart” technologies for the early detection of cardiovascular disease in women at risk, as well as designing and translating therapies targeting diseases affecting women, from cancer to cardiovascular and pregnancy-related conditions.

More recently, Lana has led the commercialisation of a quantum-based imaging platform for pathology, further expanding her impact across emerging healthcare technologies.

With experience spanning discovery science, translational medicine, biotechnology, diagnostics, and commercial innovation, Lana brings a rare breadth of expertise across the full healthcare ecosystem, from molecule to patient.
